Superbooth 2023: DinSync - RE-101

US An electronically exact replica of the Roland SH-101      13/05/23

We spoke to Paul from DinSync at Superbooth 2023 about their new product, the RE-101, which is a replica of the Roland SH-101. The RE-101 is built from parts that are 100% compatible with the original SH-101 board. Paul mentioned that they have made a replica of the original SEM VCO, which was used in the original Roland machine. They are also working with Analog Renaissance, the premier experts on the 3109 circuit, to create a chip that is indistinguishable from the original. This chip is especially brilliant in the distortion of the resonance, which is what sets it apart from other clones in the market. DinSync's unique selling point is that they want to make a machine that is as authentic as possible to the original and becomes legacy spare parts.

DinSync's RE-101 is the perfect solution for customers that haven't had spare parts for over 30 years. Service centers have been shut down over the past 10 years, making it impossible to get service for an old vintage Japanese machine. Paul said that the filter on the RE-101 is so integral to the SH-101 sound, as it produces the classic slightly distorted resonance. The SH-101 was Paul's first synth when he was a young lad, so this product is a real labor of love. The RE-101 will be available as a kit in the future, so customers can build a brand new machine or repair their vintage machine.
