Industrial Radio's MIDI Bass 4 now available 26-Jul-10
You'd think that MIDI-fy-ing the bass guitar would be simple right? Well if only, the problem lies in the fundamental frequency that the bass operates at, because the waves are low frequency, the pitch analysis needs more time to figure out what the pitch is, which results on slow tracking. In higher pitched instruments, the wave cycle is much faster and therefore take less time to track.
Industrial Radio - an Australian based manufacturer have been working on finessing this conundrum for some time now. Using a fret-sensing neck and multi-sensor approach to MIDI conversion they are able to achieve low-latency MIDI tracking for both the studio and live environments. Currently they are at MIDI Bass 4 which offers:
