Stompbox Captures The Sound Of India

See the Electro-Harmonix Ravish Sitar pedal in action 31-Aug-11

In the latest installment of Electro-Harmonix' Effectology Bill Ruppert focuses on the new Ravish Sitar pedal.

E-H told us, "This video explores its potential and power. In addition to incredible sitar emulations, Bill shows that the Ravish is capable of creating other truly mind bending sounds. The flexibility of the Ravish Sitar pedal is truly stunning!"

Here's how E-H describe the new pedal:

Very few instruments offer as much harmonic and dynamic flexibility as a sitar. Electro-Harmonix has streamlined the essence of the sitar into a compact enclosure that offers a polyphonic lead voice and tunable sympathetic string drones that dynamically react to your playing. Create your own custom scales for the sympathetic strings while you set the decay time for the lead voice. Two expression pedal inputs allow you to bend the pitch of the lead voice and control the volume of the sympathetic strings simultaneously. These unique controls offer the player the ability to program the Ravish to become a totally unique and organic instrument unto itself. The Ravish is a truly new design with the flexibility to be a crossover tonal wonder.

Is it true bypass?

oddtones001 26-Apr-12 08:36 PM

I couldn't stand it anymore. I just ordered my Ravish pedal about 2 hours ago. It should be here Saturday.

DesireBros 17-Apr-12 08:41 PM

herrloop 10-Mar-12 01:56 AM

Fabtastic! Great demo!

ruddymuggles14 25-Feb-12 12:41 AM

haha dude, effectology is a series done by ehx

Kyussfan96 13-Feb-12 03:06 PM

play it with a fuzz pedal, a vibrato pedal, and a phaser pedal all at the same time!

AparoidX 31-Jan-12 10:07 PM

Really good job demonstrating the versatility of this pedal! Much better job than EHX if I say so myself. I didn't even think the Koto sound could be achieved with this thing.

renangoncalvesflores 17-Jan-12 09:59 PM

Wow! I loved it. Not as a sitar synth, but as something to achieve new sounds not only with electric guitars, but other electric instruments as well.

Tyrantax 08-Jan-12 09:35 PM

What song?

klinsmeier 27-Dec-11 08:50 PM

@fazialpalmierung I had a vision of myself on the guitar, wearing a paisley jacket, performing my new Beatlesque song (I will start with it right now!), with a Bolloywood choreography in the background.

jasontylerblack 25-Dec-11 02:37 PM

Oh my, I have been wanting to add this sound to my band. This pedal is amazing! Thanks for this demo s far has been the most helpful

jpearson311 14-Dec-11 06:09 AM

Dude that thing is sick! I bet it would sweet with a little fuzz/distortion mixed in with it. I want one!

TheEnricoRosExp 06-Dec-11 11:56 PM

@01:57 The Who

Effectology 05-Dec-11 08:11 PM

I have not tried it in a loop.

KilledTheFixtion 05-Dec-11 07:09 PM

Does this effect run better through the effects loop or straight to the front of the amp??

KingTabor 30-Nov-11 09:32 AM

this one could deliver the Metheny's vibe/tone on LAST TRAIN HOME?

hafstrat 17-Nov-11 09:57 PM

Dear Santa ........

DSBenevides 12-Nov-11 01:38 PM

Wild Bill rules !

Effectology 05-Nov-11 10:35 PM

Yes, the sympathetic notes are not at a fixed volume . The do get louder if they happen to be near the pitch of the lead note. The freeze drone is like the freeze, that is fixed.

1Doz 05-Nov-11 06:15 PM

THanks for the reply. Let me rephrase my last question in something like readable English. Is the volume of the drone notes relative to each other fixed, or can particular notes get louder if they happen to be near the pitch of the lead note? In other words, can you sort of emphasize individual drone notes with your lead notes.

I can't believe how cool this pedal sounds. Hats off to the designers.

Effectology 05-Nov-11 05:26 PM

Yes you need an expression pedal. The lead voice is not a triggered synth, its your guitar. The drone notes can be imputed to resonate in what ever range you want.

1Doz 05-Nov-11 03:12 PM

Is an expression pedal required for the glissando note transitions?

The drone strings are synthesized but is the lead voice a synth representation of the note being played, or is it the actual note but highly filtered and effected?

Do the drone tones always sound in the same proportion, or do the tones that happen to be in the vicinity of the lead note being played get louder as they would in a real instrument?

Effectology 31-Oct-11 11:46 PM

I would have to try it to see! It could sound very cool. I just saw Jerry Jones retired, how sad. He is a great builder and a great guy. I used his longhorn in today's video. Its such a great guitar!

dwwavek 31-Oct-11 10:21 PM

Excellent Video and Great pedal ? what if You played a electric sitar in to the Ravish Sitar (and other EHX pedals add to or detract from ? dumb question but I saw a decent priced (real) electric sitar and there (were) Jerry Jones Retired now his Sitars the original Coral sitars are wow in price I think Rogue made a inexpensive one also just thinking THANKS Bill!

Decubuntu 03-Oct-11 01:20 PM

George Harrison would kill for this pedal... You guys were just too late to make him happy

youenjoy00myself 01-Oct-11 04:25 PM

Awesome pedal and great review! Really showed off the numerous capabilities of the pedal and how to achieve different sounds.

jochiasson 01-Oct-11 02:48 AM

It's only teenage wasteland..

johnnythewonderfly 29-Sep-11 07:44 PM

This is definitely gonna find it's way onto Andrew VanWyngarden's pedal board.

saatwikkatiha 29-Sep-11 11:02 AM

Intro from one of those early 60's Hindi movies!!! ROFL!!! BTW what they're actually saying is not even close to what the subtitles suggest xD Incredibly cool pedal, though!

mellifiedman23 25-Sep-11 09:02 PM

Bought a Ravish pedal online about three minutes after hearing these demos. These effectology demos are so educational and informative and have been a real asset for me personally as both a sample and a template. LOVE 'EM!!!

Ombrenuit 23-Sep-11 01:14 AM

Ridiculously impressive. Most other sitar simulators I've heard sucked terribly. I was not expecting this demo to go well.

tubescreamin74 22-Sep-11 03:53 PM

I got one on the way! I effing can't wait!!!

cdeization 17-Sep-11 03:13 AM

Can you do a hog -> ravish sitar -> pog video? (plus a couple freezes) Or some kinda similar drone madness? :)

seanmitchell88 11-Sep-11 11:04 PM

really cool

MrCraigary123 07-Sep-11 07:32 PM

I LOVE it

FrugalGuitarist 06-Sep-11 03:54 PM

They already did, it's called the Big Muff.

mbartolomei 01-Sep-11 02:35 PM

One more astonishing pedal sonic exploration video! Keep on good working, Bill!!!

SuperBenzid 01-Sep-11 01:37 PM

Its called a cd player you don't even need a guitar to play it

Jule553648 31-Aug-11 08:29 PM

EHX, PLEASE make a pedal that makes a bad guitar player sound good!

kulamonks 31-Aug-11 06:10 PM

This is a must have pedal for any self respecting old Hippy, that's me and I can't wait to get my hands on one.Peace and Love.

kepedize 31-Aug-11 02:54 PM
