Guthrie Govan Rig Rundown

Check out Guthrie's gear 21-Nov-11

Premier Guitar have posted a Guthrie Govan rig rundown, filmed before an Aristocrats show in Chicago, and presented by Rebecca Dirks.

See Guthrie's most recent maple-top Suhr guitar in close-up action, not to mention his Suhr amp... and pedal!

The highlight is definitely the duck-orientated sounds of the Guyatone MR3 Wah, the Govan sound suddenly seems to fall into place when he plays this pedal.

Anyway, watch it!

:D Thanks a lot! I'll keep your tips in mind.

Don't try using one that you or your Girlfriend/Boyfriend/Significant Other with long hair has stretched out, but purchase a *new* package which are much tighter. Or there are some specialized Guitar-market versions of mutes that are good but HIGHLY overpriced (Jennifer Batten's version is quite good and engineered well for the cost). Spend a few bucks in the Hair Care isle first... :D

TheSupernaut92 21-May-12 04:22 AM

i know what you mean, having a new jersey/new york accent isn't fun either.

XxicruffesionalxX 20-May-12 07:27 PM

shes hot :)

Wes919 17-May-12 02:58 AM

Guthrie Goven should get into voice acting. What a badass voice. What a lucky guy, I have a stupid sounding southern accent. :(

LokiNTB 17-May-12 02:32 AM

What kind of person steals a guy's pick out of the guitar before the show?

RedroomStudios 14-May-12 02:47 AM

I was surprised Guthrie knew who Jerry Cantrell is... but very cool!

willbassyeahsgindo 13-May-12 05:00 PM

DeadlyPenguinMusic 12-May-12 03:59 AM

I've been trying to mute the strings with a hairband but it keeps falling off. Anyone have any tips?

zfelps 10-May-12 12:24 AM

He refused to mention the name of the pedal that he really didn't like and never actually said anything bad about it...just said his preferred pedal was better suited to his needs. Way to stay classy, Guthrie.

piafounet 08-May-12 08:27 PM

cutawhitekidsomslack 05-May-12 09:51 PM

instead of using a hairband, is there a company that makes a product specificly for muting open strings that you cat mute while tapping that to dont have to tie it up at just the right strechyness? i mean . howe /govan use the all powerful hairband still so it makes wonder if there is one....

ibelong100 05-May-12 09:27 PM

WELCOME TO GRADE SEVEN EVERYBODY!

Benjiinsanity 04-May-12 12:29 PM

It does nothing to the 'tone'. NOTHING. It's not that I'm set in my ways it's the fact that I've played and performed for the last 20 years and am wise to the bullshit and money making gimmics the seperate money from gullible kids. You think you'll play or sound any different cuz of a pick? Absolute rubbish. You can either play or you can't, a pick won't help you, only hard work and practicing will. Nope not seen the advert and don't want to. You believe everything advertising tells you?

metalmader 04-May-12 09:20 AM

you really are stuck in your ways aren't you. Oh dear. And yes, if you really listened, the plectrum you use does make a difference to tone. And if you noticed, Guthrie only talks about his picks when asked. Have you ever seen an advert for redbear?

Benjiinsanity 04-May-12 09:00 AM

Nope. If you think your plectrum has any bearing on your 'sound' other than dynamics (that means loud and quiet) you're kidding yourself. Or believing the bullshit put out by companies who are trying to sell you these things at extortionate prices not to mention other youtube 'guitarists' who are trying to show off that they know somthing. It's the same bullshit as bodybuilding supplement companies who get jay cutler to say 'drink this post work out drink it'll make you huge'.

metalmader 03-May-12 10:42 PM

you seem to be forgetting that part of the reason people say they are so good (me included) is that they also sound alot better than the majority of picks available (IMHO). If you think it sounds good, and you can take good care of it and not lose it, you really cant put a price on good tone.

groovebrew 02-May-12 02:30 PM

at 3:38 I had a Monty Pyhthon flashback when homeboy said "that's a Suhr Badger"

ThrashMetalSonic 30-Apr-12 07:07 PM

Actually it's "sounds expAnsive", as in "wide" :)

Lolguy88 29-Apr-12 10:51 PM

Your shitty 'jokes' were so damn funny that you had to come to this video again once you thought up another one.

kmmmaye 29-Apr-12 10:51 PM

He played the riff from Killing In The Name!

davidmc107 29-Apr-12 07:30 PM

@ 8:26- "sounds expensive" XD

cowcrusher 29-Apr-12 06:06 PM

Bah I'm comment spamming now but I love bryan beller in the back just checking out the rig rundown hahaha

cowcrusher 29-Apr-12 06:04 PM

I love this band, every musician is amazing and they have some wild ideas.

cowcrusher 29-Apr-12 05:59 PM

I agree the picks are worth it. I spend more on replacing cheap picks than just having a red bear for 2 years with no issues. I don't gig very much right now though, so they're more worth it when you play tons. But college takes all my time (3rd year engineering + econ =/)

oakenguitar3 29-Apr-12 05:36 AM

AWESOME!

oakenguitar3 29-Apr-12 05:35 AM

2:58 is the best lick ever.

@Brooky22888 I was thinking that also. Quintessential English eccentric.

jbubal 25-Apr-12 10:16 PM

That KokoBoost is the shit! I really like Rundowns where guitarists actually play and show what each thing does to the sound.

PabloRomero1991 24-Apr-12 08:52 PM
