It is one of the most iconic music videos ever made, and now the very bass guitar used by Krist Novoselic in the video for 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' is up for sale.
The Zen-On bass was bought by Krist at a pawn shop prior to the recording of the video, and it would later meet a sorry fate and be smashed up by the band. Well the body of the guitar is all that is left, and it is due to go to auction in London, where it is expected to reach a price of up to £25,000.
It will be sold by a London branch of Christie's on 19 November, during the same auction items such as Indiana Jones' whip and Bob Dylan's high school yearbook will also be sold.
The bass was actually salvaged on the set of the video shoot by a fan of the band, who appeared as an extra on the promo shoot for the song.
It's in contention to be one of the most expensive smashed up bass guitar bodies of all time! Even after the beating it took during the video shoot, it still looks great, and is likely to end up being privately displayed somewhere.
