The iconic Stylophone pocket synth, played by everyone from David Bowie to Kraftwerk to Orbital to Gotye, which has sold over 4 million units since it's creation by Brian Jarvis of Dubreq in 1968 has just grown up....

Dubreq Ltd, now run by Ben Jarvis, a product designer and son of the Stylophone's original inventor, today launches the Stylophone 'S2' on the world synth market. The S2 is a portable (just 308mm X 120mm X 26mm and less than 1kg/2lbs in weight) fully spec'd analogue synthesizer that is designed and built entirely in the UK.

The S2 features the famous Stylophone metal keyboard, now 3 octaves long and playable with the included wire-free stylus or by finger touch, a +/- 2 octave shifter, an all analogue signal path, a classic British style 12dB/octave state-variable filter, dual all-transistor voltage controlled oscillators, sub-oscillators for super-fat bass, an eight waveform LFO with a 14 octave range, an auxiliary-input to use the filter and envelope-generator for other instruments, a 1/4" output jack socket as well as an internal speaker and headphone socket and a CV and Trigger input sockets.

Finally, also yamaha need to take this leaf out of dubreqs book and implement some sound design features into the tenori-on, and velocity into the sequencer.

I wish Yamaha would re-release the CS-01, or Korg would put a proper keyboard on one of their little analogue doohickies. Or a proper keyboard on this Stylophone for that matter, although it might not then be a Stylophone

Stylophone user - initial enthusiasm for pro model tempered by crazy price compared with Monotribe, surely pitching at similar market? Lost opportunity to trump the KORG by standard fit MIDI. Question ergonomics of tiny knobs. Will need to sound pretty amazing not to bomb like the 350s. I will be delighted to be proved wrong..;-)

Sound samples are on their way according to their site. Looks like Kronos design influenced the styling rather a lot. Seems like a StyloBeatbox style sequencer top left. .Interest reawakened if this records motion sequences from those little knobs ...as a boutique instrument it is cheaper than an OP1 I guess...

Now heard the first video - oh. It sounds like a 350s thru a whammy pedal. Might as well put a standard stylophone through a Monotron or just get a Minibrute as others have said. Odd - so unviable commercially it almost feels like vapourware.
