Apple Rack Up 50 Billion App Downloads

Dude gets $10k iTunes voucher - how can you spend that?   16-May-13

Yesterday Apple gave a guy a $10,000 iTunes voucher.

Brandon Ashmore was the lucky dude who downloaded the 50 billionth app. I'd love to see what happened, was there some kind of custom easter egg and his device started flashing and making a big payout noise? Or did he get an automated email from Apple.

I wonder how on earth he's going to spend that though - as far as I'm aware, you can't spend iTunes vouchers on actual Apple hardware, so he'll be shopping for a while and is going to need a full 64GB device I would imagine.

But 50 Billion is a BIG number:

50,000,000,000

To quote some more numbers:
800 apps per second, or 2 billion apps a month.

As I'm in an extrapolative mood -Apple has sold:

84 million iPads
400M iOS devices (iPhones?)
350M iPods.
Grand total 834 Million (to Sept 2012) 

I make that around 59.95 Apps per device - (obviously these are pretty crude calculations).

The App Store has over  850,000 apps to choose from, 350,000 native iPad apps. No wonder it's so hard to find stuff.

What was the last App you downloaded?
I think mine was Korg's iPolysix - you can see what I thought of it on Sonic Touch episode 20

 Any advice on what Brandon should spend his $10K on?
