Amped columnist Rob Hicks gives verdict on the gear he wants to add to his rig from MusikMesse 2014...
Another MusikMesse show is behind us, which means guitarists are making shopping lists of the new guitar gear they want to buy over the coming months.
So, here's my MusikMesse wishlist, based on the best products I got my hands on during the show.
Guitars
Fender - Starcaster
Fender have just re-released the Starcaster. The Starcaster has long been one of my favourite shapes for a guitar, it's like someone sat on a 335...Everything about it screams 70's from the sunburst finish to the weird shaped headstock. Fender have done all the sensible upgrades as well so it's still a useable guitar in today's world of high gain amps and boutique pedals. Complete with centre block and hotter output pickups this beauty is first on my list.
Amps
Marshall - Handwired Series
I know the rules of this game are to pick things that we saw and/or videoed at Messe but I'm choosing to bend the rules based on new information. When Rich and I were at NAMM we got to take a look (and listen) to the hand wired series from Marshall. Both of us were blown away, it seems that Marshall have remembered how to build amazing sounding tube amps as they did so well way back when! Well, at the time there was no price given so I didn't know how many pennies to put away but now we do! (Ironically the paperwork with the prices on is at the Sonic Office...)
