Gaz here. Oh how I want to like this synth with four real analogue voices and step sequencing prowess for under $500 but based on what I have seen so far I'm not sure. Akai's admirable move into analogue synthesis is most welcome but I need to see some really exciting and most importantly good sounding demonstrations to convince me as what I have seen so far is sub Jen Sx 1000! Akai please use competent musicians to demo your stuff otherwise I'll look elsewhere. |

So after yesterday's deluge of exciting news, today has seemed rather relaxed in comparison but the sheer enormity of the show and the impressive amount of small companies showing their wares mean that although yesterday was more headline grabbing, there is still plenty of fascinating new things to see. Modular synthesis seems to be the order of the day and highlights include the Koma Komplex, the ever reliable Pittsburgh Modular offerings, ace to see the Phenol synth, Frap Tools really great folding case for modulars and of course Studio Electronics Euro Rack modules. We are so excited and impressed to see this relatively small sector of the music tech market growing with such vigour and with real innovation. Really wonderful too to hook up with Sonic Talk contributors Corry Banks and Diego Stocco too! |

Things are getting rather exciting in the modular world as we have already commented but we keep getting blown away by the scope of some of the new releases. Yesterday's announcement of the Waldorf nw1 Eurorack module had us salivating over it's huge creative potential (also good to see the marvellous Nave making it to VST/AU land too) but imagine the possibilities of combining it with this monster! |
