Back in 2012 at MusikMesse we came across a tiny stand where UK inventor Adam Place was displaying his new AlphaSphere controller (see the original story here) - it was an amazing looking instrument, and it garnered a lot of interest at the show.
Fast forward to 2015, and AlphaSphere currently offers two versions of the controller; the Nexus and the limited edition Elite. Though hugely innovative, neither can be considered 'easily affordable'... at $900, the Nexus represents a bit of an investment - enter the AlphaSphere me; a stripped-down version which is aiming to hit the streets at a frankly amazing price of just $200 later this spring.
To reach this pricepoint, the construction has been simplified, and the number of pads reduced from the 48 of the Nexus and Elite models, to 32 for the 'me', but it still is basically the same technology.
We caught up with demonstrator Felix in the relatively sane environment of a hotel room away from the craziness of the show floor, and were given a look at the new model.
And pretty impressive it is - to have this level of expressivity in an affordable package is tempting indeed...
