Moog Launches A New Video Series

Russell E.L. Butler uses four Mother-32s in the first Sonic Origins episode   01-Feb-17

Moog Music has launched Sonic Origins, a new video series that seeks to unearth the underlying elements of artistic identity. The series kicks off with Oakland-based producer Russell E.L. Butler. This is what Moog Music has to say...

Techno-rhythmic emancipator Russell E.L. Butler defines resilience: a scheduled performer on the tragic night of the Ghost Ship Fire, Butler witnessed the sudden loss of personal music equipment, a community's creative space and the lives of many dear friends. Choosing to create a new future, Butler is today releasing a new EP and preparing a non-binary workshop with the S1 Synth Library for Moogfest 2017. Here, Butler takes pause to reflect on ancestral inspirations, the interconnections of varied identity consciousnesses, and, ultimately, music as self-liberation.

For the filming of the first Sonic Origins, Russell incorporated four Mother-32's to construct a hard-hitting modular session titled "Sirens From a Distance". Listen to the full track here.
