NAMM 2015: Interesting New Roland Bluescube Update

You could soon get your favourite guitarist's amp sound   21-Jan-15

    MP4 4:10 mins

Earlier this month we took a look at a prototype of the Roland Bluescube, a new solid state amplifier designed with the intention of bringing the sound of the tweed and blackface era combos into the 21st century.

One thing we didn't know about at that point is that the amplifier has an input for a cartridge which completely changes the way the amp sounds and behaves.

The cartridge looks like a little valve, which you insert into the back of the amplifier, and they have worked with the inimitable Eric Johnson on designing the first cartridge.

So simply by placing this into the back of the amplifier, you don't simply get the Eric Johnson 'tone' - what you actually get is an amplifier that sounds and behaves to Eric Johnson's exact specifications... which is pretty cool.

The guys at Roland haven't confirmed to us whether other artists will be coming on board, but it probably goes without saying that... well, other artists will almost definitely be coming on board.
