Program Management
As well as setting up individual programs, the Control Freak also provides facilities for managing programs - copying programs, copying slider assignments between programs, resetting programs etc.
It is also possible to send or receive SysEx single slider/button/function key assignments or entire profiles.
When sending profiles via SysEx, the resulting dump may be loaded back into any program location. This is particularly useful for exchanging profiles for particular instruments with other users. Indeed Kenton make a number of additional profiles (over 400) available from their web site.
E.g. Cubase VST 5, Propellerheads’ Reason, Cakewalk Sonar, E-mu Proteus 2000…
Another useful resource is the Virtual Control Freak by David Heard. This is a freeware piece of software for Windows 95/98 (although it also seems to work fine on Windows 2000 too) that allows creating, sending and receiving programs and saving them as MIDI files. There is a link to David Heard's web page on the Kenton site listed below.
Pre-defined Profiles
The Control Freak Studio Edition comes with a number of pre-defined profiles for popular synths, soundcards and sound modules. Some are generally useful, such as those listed below:
Volumes and mutes on MIDI channels 1-16 Pans on MIDI channels 1-16 MIDI Controllers on the global MIDI channel (various sets)
