Conclusion
Edirol have done a good job of cramming all this functionality into the PCR range – well at least the PCR-30 is small. The power of this control and the extra MIDI input put it in a class of it’s own for the price. I found it to be eminently usable as a keyboard, which is not something you can always bank on in a device of this cost. It’s hard to find fault to be honest, although I did find some patches would just spontaneously stream out MIDI data, changing memories and or switching the PCR on/off sorted this.
The recent announcement of the PCR-A30 will be of interest as well, considering it adds a 24-bit/96kHz USB interface into the package.
