DP 2.7 really kicks ass in my opinion. There are more plugin formats compatable with DP than just premiere-- there are the proprietary MOTU audio plugs which feature the direct input option from all Koblo, Bitheadz and now Native Instruments (Reaktor, B4, Pro 5) virtual synths/samplers (also rewire support from Propellorheads). (Plus AudioTap which allows DP to record digitally any program that uses SoundManager for audio, such as RealPlayer or Quicktime streaming.... good for recording live internet broadcasts digitally). Also, there is Pluggo for MAS which not only provides 74 cool MAX MSP developed effects, but also, adds VST compatability to DP. Also, there is the Waves shell, which provides compatability with all Waves effects in native MOTU audio format, (in addition to Spark FX machine --(TC Electronics)). Last but not least, one can use DAE if one has the hardware to access all ProTools plugin formats (but, only seperately from MAS mode).
Other cool features: capable of running MAS, Waves, Spark and VST effects at the same time, intuitive tempo/rhythmic or manual/MIDI controlled effects automation with much flexibility, ability to export to OMF for transfer to ProTools systems, graphical time comnpress/expand with hand grabber tool, built in Sampler suppport -- easy to send any audio clip to SMDI samplers via SCSI, definable sample editor integration such as the ability to use BIAS Peak to edit sounds and then transfer them back into DP or to an ASR-10!!!!, native FreeMIDI which in my opinion is just plain better than OMS (also considering that OMS isn't being developed any more due to Opcode's demise), native compatability with, in my opinion, the best audio or midi hardware for the money -- 2408mkII, MIDI express, so on... MIDI time stamping (best timing accuracy or pinpoint MIDI event editing available) support with USB and MOTU midi interfaces, G4 optimization.... So on, so forth.....
