The Beyer MCE-10 though a little pricey even used, is a terrific mic for the flat-top acoustic guitar and the fiddle. Compared to the KM-184 it's a little brighter and to the SM-81 it's a bit rounder. Being a hypercardiod it's great for live work and naturally has a lot of output that's clean and defined without the brass or the boominess of budget condensers of similar package. Plus it's barely visible when it's mounted on the instrument. It's easily powered by an inexpensive A-T power module (the 8051 is really a phantom adapter) which can be clipped to the belt or to the Beyer phantom XL adapter.
