First if you can't record on tracks 7&8 it's because you record compression is set to MAS and not MT1 or MT2. MT1 has a slightly better sound quality than MT2 but both sound pretty good. It is tricky to use without a manual but if you mess with it enough you'll figure it out. It's part of the fun. I use mine with Sonar software as a control surface and it works great.

well if your here you must be thinking about purchasing one of these. Let me just say that this was what introduced me to digital recording. Wow what a tool!!!!! These have become so cheap that I would say the fx alone are nearly worth the used price you'll come to find...........BUY IT //// When YOU FINALLY UPGRADE YOU WILL MISSS THIS

Just buy one second-hand and your audio-life will get a whole new meaning. This amazing piece showed me the road into professional audio engineering. Now I´m stuck and happy. Are you prepared to take this step, so buy it!

I forgot to mention -- the display is VERY difficult to read.

Does anyone know of a digital recorder with a large drive that can record synths on ALL 8 channels and does track bouncing easily? If i could find such a unit, i would (gladly) sell this!

Don't get me wrong -- I really like this unit, but the limitations are very frustrating!

I own the VS-880EX. To keep this short:

GOOD POINTSS: Great sound, easy to use (for recording),

POOR POINTS: Channels 7 & 8 cannot be used for instrument input -- "optical" input only. Track bouncing is a nightmare.
