Ok it's not the be all and end all of softsynth production. That said in the right hands Reason is a veritable tour de'force. Really comes into it's own when rewired into Ableton Live. Combine it project 5 and Reaktor and you'd be pretty much set. It does however only sound as good as your production skills ,souncard and monitors. The coding and CPU usage alone should really score the damn thing a 10 it after all very ergonomic ,cpu lite and stable. My only reason for the down score is that the mixer reallt should have 4 band eq with parametric/sweepable hi mid / low mid controls and whilst I don't see the need for VST implementation if Recycle was part of the bundle and the sampelrs themselves had direct soundcard audio input it would pretty much be off the hook....

A lot has been said about the apparent lack of sound quality in reason. First, try using the effect processors to phatten up the sound. Next, get a good sound card and some decent monitors so you can hear whats really being produced. There are plenty of Pros that list reason on their kit lists so the purely amateur knock is from someone that has a prejudice against software and likes his hardware. Nothing wrong with that. Reason is a great place to begin and even to use as the main tool of choice. I think reason in conjunction with protools, cubase or something else is when you can really compliment to reasons sounds and bring in other effects and sound programs. Not to mention harware sound if you have the right software/audio card.

Listen to the radio and you won't hear any songs. You'll just hear a bunch of factory produced crap that all sounds the same. Go underground, lots of artists are using Reason!!!

Yeah, I guess that's why the new Prodigy album is composed in Reason...
