I put this on my pc the other day and had a small play on it and yes it is very versatile , yes you can produce full tracks on it but the sound quality that comes from the software sounds kind of lofi , gritty and next to my hardware synths its kind of crap.

if your desperate for an all in one solution , go for this software , if you have hardware - use that instead because the soundquality of of real boxes eats this for breakfast.(i used a proper soundcard and not a SBlive also)

im not going to vote as i didnt delve into it that much cos the soundquality put me off.

I sold all of my hardware and I don't miss any of it. If you've ever dreamed of a program that would be a "be-all/end-all" solution for electronic music production, then look no further. Reason offers endless possibilities, yet is very simple to operate. The price is nothing compared to the thousands of dollars you would otherwise spend getting this kind of setup with hardware. It doesn't require a monster computer to operate, either. I run Reason from an iBook and it's like an entire studio in a laptop! Just an amazing program!

I think Reason is close to perfect. Many people trash it just because they are too used to what they are using and can't used to a new environment or they think Reason is just a toy. Well, I have listened to too many shite work produced on "pro" expensive stuff like protools, and the same time I have listened to many wonderful works made with cheapo like Akai 12 bit samplers. So please people. Don't blame Reason for your lack of creativity or even talent. For its price it can do so much. Gear is good or not is judged by the hands using it.

I love this program for what is. I don't like it's default sounds and effects. Very cheesy. But, it's not a big deal. I think most people will use there own sounds and effects generated from other sources, and mainly use Reason for it's powerful "composing" capabilities. It's a wonderful tool.

After my mediocre, I thought I would get some flak. I bought a new computer, so my thoughts have changed. When you really sit down and spend time with this program, you start to realize how powerful it becomes. I stress the greatness of the ReDrum, because it's almost like having a virtual Akai MPC or Emu SP series drum box. You can dump any AIFF sound into this thing. It changes my approach to music writing. The same goes for the sampler and the Rex Loop player. I guess Rex will become more useful when I get Recycle 2.0.

And the service is decent. My first request must not have gone through, but they addressed most of my concerns. Beware though, if you are running this on an older Mac with a G3/G4 upgrade card, you are going to experience the "freezing" problem I was having. It's running perfectly on my iMac 500mhz w/256 mb. The more memory the better, but that's a given with any software.

Over all, it's a great program. A lot of professionals are even starting to pick up on it, so guess support will be very good. Can't wait to see what they do in the next version.
