i have an AMD chipset runninf XP SP2 2 gig ram nice sound card ect ect. and said motu midi express xt connecting thru a serial port. all was well. the sun was shining and i loved the midi interface. then i had an HD error. replaced the HD and reinstalled. to my horror (skies greying and thunder in the distance) midi didnt work. i called a friend of mine (a DR in puters) he had the same problem. i traced it to an update of windows. tho i dont know what one. SP3 contains it to. contacted motu. they asked me one question then nothing. for weeks. inpaitently using and inferior USB midi and hoping against hope that motu could find it. at last motu posted a reply. with lightened heart at my good fortune i logged in. only to have my hopes dashed upon the jagged rocks of dispair. motu had marked my question as resolved. i, with shining sword in have have taken upon my self to smite and slay this dragon of wicked and wanton stupidity that is motu. and burn the hobgoblins that are motu tech support after i have stormed the castle of motu with micky mouse hats in hand and personaly stuck a cap in each of their azzs..... ss got carried away. if i get an ansewr i`ll be bk to let you all know

I spent quite a while trying to the the Midi Express XT to work with XP and it would not communicate with the computer. Finally, after searching for a long time on the net, found mention of a ROM upgrade required to have the unit work with PC. Purchased the ROM upgrade from motu and the unit works flawlessly. Get the ROM if you are having trouble.

WORKS OK WITH WIN98, STICKS SOMETIMES, BUT PILE OF CRAP WITH MY CURRENT XP SET UP, LPT REFRESH SEEMS TO SEND SIGNALS TO IT BUT CLOCKWORK CAN'T SEE IT. MAY HAVE TO CHECK MY CHIPSET TU ENSURE IT'S COMPATABLE. HAVE SPENT PROBABLY 50 PLUS HOURS ON TRYING TO INSTALL IT WITH THE VARIOUS METHODS AND THE LIKE. NO LUCK. Always good luck with my USB MIDI Express XT. Once, the unit was forgetting my patchbay settings after power-off. A simple call to MOTU tech support, it was suggested that the memory battery needs replacing, and voila, remembers my patch settings once again. I switch the unit between a Powerbook G4 with OSX, an iBook G4 with OSX, and a Powerbook G3 with OS9 - and the XT behaves beautifully and reliably every time. Never any screwy driver problems or otherwise. Solid machine, love it!
