After the first run of these boards that had a problem with knobs transmiting in 3 value jumps these controllers are the best period in the market at this price point. Edirol is Roland and yes they know how to get powerful midi programming into this great board. The instruciton book is great for pro midi users and for people with 1/2 a brain cell. There is tons of maps for this controllers on the edirol site also. Setting up on a MAC or PC has been a brease as is working with reason or any other soft synth. I researched and demo'd boards from evolution, maudio, korg, and novation before settling on this board. The evolution *even the newest ones* do not allow custom sysex programming. This is very important if you have knobless vintage gear ( i use my pcr with my jx8p, six trak, split 8, and juno 106 for when i want to leave it in its stand). Sysex is easy to program once you understand how too.. CC's are a brease you can do that without even readin the manual.. the only other board with sysex progamming is the korg microkontrol but it has small keys and cheap construction and the novation which is priced sky high and only comes in 25 keys.. the pcr line is tops and i recomend it for all users looking for a controller.

Much better than no keyboard/ no sliders & knobs etc, BUT more than occasionally counter-intuitive, awkward to use, and not doing what I want it to... certainly hasn't lived up to what I thought I'd be able to do (in Reason). Time will tell whether I can find workarounds.
