I simply say that 01X is just a great piece of gear in all respects. It's the brain in my home studio

If you are like me you haven't got tens of thousands of pounds worth of gear, but have a few synths, a pc running cubase and some instruemnts vocals etc. Demos for me always sounded dull on my spirit m8 and cubase mixing difficult with a mouse. Also my audiophile only had one midi in/out and suffered from latency. Also my eq plugins werent all that. So the 01x gives me very low latency, professional mixing channels -24 of them, 2 midi ins/outs, almost zero latency, and great eq and dsp fx. The result is i create professional sounding demos in half the time. Thats why ive given it a 10. It sounds absolutely great and inspires a hobbyist like myself to delve into the professional world of mixing. I sense that they have targeted this box at people like myself with pc based studios and a few synths. Ive only bought one piece of gear before that ive been so happy with, and that was the virus c. I paid £779 for the 01x and wouldnt have been outraged if it were just an 8 channel mixer, but its so much more than that. Once you are up and running, i found myself being able to get a near perfect mix in a matter of minutes and this encourages the user to audition mixes more. The motorised faders add the wow factor and the mastering plugin i think "sounds" amazing. Like the virus c, his is one bot of kit i dont think i will ever sell. The pleasant surprise for me was the way you can take 16 channels of audio from cubase, into the 01x as 16 tracks and mix on top of the 8 analog ins on the 01x, giving 24 tracks of 01x. At the same time you can also mix your vst instruments as well as everything else giving 40 tracks of control from 01x at a time. Its way ahead of its time and yes i do like it!

The Yamaha 01X is a great all in one piece of gear. But I was dissapointed about the sound quality. I sold it after a week of two and bought a RME Fireface wich really has outstanding sound quality. The midi capabilities are outstanding though, escpecially if you work with SX. Effects in this machine are also very useable. But if you are critical about sound quality don't go for this peace, cause the AD/DA converters are not as good as for example RME...

Are there aliens working with Yamaha!?!? The 01X is far too complex a machine to offer any sort of proper review that is not bound in a hardcover with ISBN number. Needless to say, it is more than I could have imagined before purchase or, for that matter, 6 months after. By the basic tenants of quantum physics one can never fully imagine all it can do at one time. A truly perfect recording studio when paired with Logic Pro 7 and OSX Panther. God bless Yamaha!!!

Initially the 01x was confusing. The manual is weak. But this is now the coolest piece of kit I have. Excellent sound quality. Remote control of Digital Performer. Good effects.
