I agree the 1820m worked okay when new. I used it only a handfull of times and last week while trying to record in Cubase it gave off this load constant static and just about blew my headphones off. I think it was the dying moan because now, even though the lights are on, nobody is home. Working with tech support is a shame. It took them a week to email me. Then it was like they did not even read everything I said that I already did. My advice is never buy another EMU recording device. Buy a Presonus Firebox or one of their 19 inch rack units and use that PCI slot in your PC for a firewire card instead.

Had this card for nearly two years. When it worked, it worked okay - not great considering the $600 cost, but it did the job. Two days ago it just suddenly quit. Called tech support and their answer was "Sounds like the card died. You'll have to buy another (which are currently out of stock). E-mu shows absolutely no customer loyalty. I also own an 2 emu keyboards, a command station and two modules. They should have stuck to the hardware stuff instead of the computer stuff. I will never buy another e-mu product.
