I also agree, its wounderfoul. I use it for playing live in a Pink floyd tribute band, and as you can imagine i use a lot of sounds,and synths and with out it i would be lost, thanks Yamaha.

I often refer to my MEP4s (I have two of them) as my Swiss Army Knife of Midi. A friend convinced me to buy one in the late 80s, I have never regretted it and added the second one. I really like the ability to do a program change on my SY77 and have my entire multi-syth and effects setup change to exactly what I want. The functions you can create are limited only by your imagination. Hexadecimal programming is a pain, that is the biggest problem I see with it. Create echoes and save your effects for reverbs, etc. Every serious musician should have one or several, the possibilities are far too many to discuss here. Clyde

I agree with Mert, the MEP-4 is a great device, and everyone should have at least one of them! I have three and have found uses for all of them at one time or another.
One drawback Mert didn't mention in his review is that editing is done mostly in hexidecimal, like a lot of early Yamaha gear. The other drawback is that the manual is less than helpful, and doesn't clearly explain how best to use some of the MEP-4's functions.
I believe these were originally designed to be used in conjunction with Yamaha's KX-88 and KX-76 keyboard controllers, to allow 4 part splits and layers. But obviously they can be used with any controller keyboard, so it is nice to have the MEP-4 as a seperate rack unit. After all these years I've never had a problem with my MEP-4's. knock on wood!
