I like the MX-8 since it is probably the only midi patchbay that doesn't require a computer to program. It has a large 2 line display for all parameters. And it isn't terribly hard to find a used one. The only drawback, if you want to edit from a computer (like with sounddiver) there is no "edit buffer" so it can behave unexpectedly when editing settings to store in other memory locations, so your best bet is not to use a computer to edit the MX-8 itself (the LCD will suffice anyway).
