This is a quite colored microphone preamp. This reissue (now out of production) use property audio trasformers (which i think are the same of originals). I have used the isa 220 but it sound quite different (different trasformer probably). This is a very colored unit and similar to old neve's. You may love it or not. Its color make it PERFECT for sources which need colors (voice/guitar/piano/brass). It's like a valve unit but doesn't have valve low freq muddiness. It brings vocal out of mix even if you add so much verb. I don't think it is so versatile but sounds stellar (especially for vox). The eq is very nice too, working with high boost or cut, it trasform the sound without giving the classic eq (bad) signature. I have used other pre (spl, joemeek) and this is in other league.
