Is is just me or is cakewalk a little bit of a toy? I mean speedy this program is not! It takes twice as many steps to do anything productive with it, and to top if off the GUI lookes like a glorified SPREADSHEET program. This program is definitely not a professional's choice. Having been a Cakewalk user from the DOS days, I am sad to see 12Tone really dragging their feet in giving cakewalk the same professional edge that MAC sequencers seem to enjoy. I have never been a MAC user, but having had the pleasure of working on Digital Performer recently, I can finally justify switching platforms...

Version 9 is certainly an improvement in many aspects. We've just mixed down a single using it. But The methods of selection and control are still clumsy. i.e. in the sound editor why do you keep having to go back to the toolbar to delete or edit or add. Why is t still essential to have the overall view available to have access to Mute, Solo Arm etc.

After making the rounds from cakewalk 6 to vst to logic to hardware seqs to vst again, I am now resting with cake v9. Its awesome with dsp factory, and rock solid. logic speaks an alien language, and vst is too unreliable, so cakewalk it is. now that you got sterero audio per track, its the bizniss. Oh, and editing 3rd party plugins (TC etc)on the fly is stutter free, UNLIKE vst (and I got a p3 500 w/ ultrawide scsi).

Version 9 is out and what an improvement! After recording and mixing a project with mutiple audio and midi tracks with lots of console automation going on, I was blown away by how fast and smooth and stable the whole thing was. You can actually use the console view now, and you'll want to because they've given it a spiffy new look ala VST. New features like the session drummer are great too. This is the BEST upgrade of any software I've ever's how CPA should have been all along...almost, dare I say it...... hardwarelike in it's smooth, stable performance....3 cheers!

cakewalk 9 has been released, and almost all of the problems with 8 has been fixed. Audio latency is now much better, i can get 63 ms latency with standard wave drivers, its a little unreliable then though but set it between 100-200 ms and it works perfectly. The whole interface of the program feels faster and its just less buggy.
