A fully-equipped rack mounted recording channel, the MX60 is intended for direct recording of voices and instruments and packs in all the necessary elements to carry out the task. After the preamp there is a de-esser, noise gate, compressor, 3 band EQ section, a 'Tubesound' distortion section and a limiter at the end of the chain to prevent overload of any digital recording media.

Good Points
The MX60 can handle mic, line and instrument signals and there is a treble boost that can be switched into the instrument inputs signal path to simulate instrument amplifiers. Although there are plenty of front panel buttons and knobs, operation is very straightforward as many of the processers parameters such as the compressors attack and release times change automatically to suit the program material, for an example the de-esser has a straightforward rotary control combined with a male/female switch making setting it up for the correct voice easy without having to set a specific frequency, while the noise gate simply has a threshold control and a switch for bringing in a longer release time. Both these and the compressor work absolutely fine with the compressor having the extra versatility of having a variable ratio control and a threshold knob rather than just one knob to turn the compression up. EQ is taken care of by high and low shelving filters and a very powerful mid range parametric so there is plenty of scope available for tonal tweaking. The Tubesound section, which features a solid state emulation of the sound of valves, is also capable of tonal work as it is controlled by three knobs so that distortion can be dialled in in the low, mid and high bands. Low levels of this can add some quite subtle shading particularly to vocals and directly plugged in guitars. One very useful feature is that you can use two of the outputs simultaneously. Using one for recording and the other for monitoring the input signal neatly sidesteps the latency problems inherent in some digital soundcards.
