The Meequalizer is a 1u twin channel EQ unit with separate controls and in/out switches for each channel.Treble is controlled by one knob providing 18dB of cut or boost at a shelving frequency of 8kHz. Similar control at the bottom end is provided at a shelving frequency of 100Hz.Midrange is taken care of by two knobs, one gives 16dB of cut or boost while the other sets the centre frequency in the range 600Hz to 3.5kHz. The Bandwidth (Q) is not fixed but increases with the frequency. The manual quotes a range for the Q of 1.2 at 600Hz through to 2.5 at 3.5kHz. There is also an output gain knob with a range of +/-12dB. |
The good thing about this is that it's dead simple, turn up the treble knob for more top end and turn up the bass for more bottom, and if that makes me sound like a moron that's just fine, why complicate things? The thing is that this EQ sounds great, it is natural and musical - the bottom end you add is fat and warm and the top end is sweet. Midrange sounds natural too, good for adding some presence or bite without harshness or thinning things out a little. This is a great way to buy a couple of channels of extra EQ to supplement what your desk does without spending a fortune.
There is no link mode for stereo operation, or centre detentes on the knobs, so you just have to try to match the left and right positions carefully and use your ears.
