The DMP9-16 is THE ONLY 3 space rackmount mixer with 16 inputs (1/4" unbalanced) and three stereo busses (main, 1&2 and 3&4). All the inputs and outputs are at the rear - so you really only need 3 rack spaces! The DMP9-16 came AFTER the DMP7 and DMP11 and just before the Promix. It listed for $3,495 in 1994 and was a beast and got alot of attention at the '94 NAMM show. If you're considering one of the DMP's, skip the DMP7 and DMP11 - the extra inputs are well worth and DMP9-16 has 5 times the output section. So you can create recording mixes, monitoring mixes, multiple stereo mixes all at the same time. The built-in SPX processors are okay (ala the SPX90II), certainly not your main reverbs, but work great for background stuff.

Good Points Very easy to use, lots of buttons to get directly to what you want. NO motorized faders (that cost alot to maintain); instead it uses rotary knobs with LEDs. LED level indicators, big LCD display, very solid feel. XLR outputs, +4 output. Full midi implementation. With the Yamaha Format I/O you can add the SPX1000 and have stereo effects loop - 100% in the digital domain. Cool, but you'd better like Yamaha effects. Also has a word clock & can run at 44.1 or 48 KHz. I've been using the mixer with my MAC and AudioMedia III card via the SPDIF in/out without any problems. Bad Points Alittle noisy, but I also think a MACKIE 1604 VLZ Pro is noisy. No inserts on the channels or output busses. SPDIF is okay, but if you need AES/BU, you'll need to buy a Yamaha FMC-1 or FMC-9 to convert the Yamaha Format I/O to something more useful. |
