Retro Transistor Vocal

Seattle producer/engineer indie experimentalist and general wacko sonic daredevil Sol Marquardt on recording his "Tweaky Transistor Vocal":

Well my theory on things is how do you make original music with an old crusty rulebook. Toss it out and make rules that suit you!

So this is the typical way I get good "real rock" vocals in the studio. First I get either a SM58, a $10 Jafco (now Best) mic, or a condenser mic(powered by battery). Then I run that hummer into a Boss Stereo Chorus Foot Pedal to split the signal (rate on 0 and depth on 10). OK, now I run the primary signal into a Tube Marshall Combo (or any combo with character). Then just run out of the combo's Speaker Emulator (or line out). With the secondary signal I go into a cheap delay with lots of crackle and pan that far left or right for some retro echo. Yeeee Haaaaa!!!

Retro Indie Rock. Have fun.
