Here's how to avoid a boomy sound when close recording acoustic guitars. Sling a mike over the guitarists shouder, making sure the mike is at the same height as his ear, but also a foot out in front, with the mike pointing down. You'll find that you get a similar sound to what the guitarist himself is hearing, but much fuller. As Mike says, "it sounds just dandy".
