Quite posh here, it's at the bottom of town but right in the center, if you see what I mean.
Being Amsterdam there tends to be a more 'tolerant' attitude to behaviour of the Rock and Roll kind. They get quite a few 'proper' stars staying here. If you check out the bar there's a bunch of photos of celebs in varying states of inebriation. Also houses the 'Cafe American', a stunning Art Deco masterpiece, which also serves fabulous cheesecake.
This is the place where A+R/management stay while you're slumming it in some dodgy hotel full of Hell's Angels in the red light district.

Great hotel right in the center of Stokholm. Full of nifty Scandanavian design. There's a built-in hi-fi in the rooms. You can pick up CD's from the reception.(Don't expect a great selection, this is Sweden.)
Has an amazing 'Grand Hall' which is open to the public at the weekend.
Quite expensive, but if you've got any sense you'll get the record company to pay..........

Huge hostel catering to the poor and unknown. Cheap, with a splendid location. The huge dorms are mixed, which can make for some alarmig scenes of decadence come the 3am curfew.
Hotel Buci Latin

You simply have to add the Hotel Buci Latin in Paris (St.Germain des Pres
neighborhood on the Left Bank) to your list of cool hotels, We stay at the
Paramount and Royalton all the time, and the HBL is in the same spirit.

Tres kitsch Hollywood hangout of the rich and famous, once home to the likes of Lennon, Belushi, de Niro etc. Led Zep conducted the famous "shark and groupie" incident here. Legend has it that while checking out, Zep manager Peter Grant had to pay for damage to several rooms, including the cost of a couple of TV's that had been tossed out of the hotels' windows. The guy at the checkout desk commented that he'd always wanted to "do" a TV himself. Grant responded by taking out a wad of notes, giving them to the clerk with the words "here you are, have one on us", upon which they both went back upstairs and chucked another TV out the window!
Chelsea Hotel

New York 10011.

Catering to the creative and bohemian since 1882, the Chelsea has a legendary reputation; Warhol made Chelsea Girls, Burroughs wrote The Naked Lunch and Arthur C. Clarke wrote 2001 here. Despite this it's still a good place to stay; it's reasonably priced (for New York), and best of all has huge rooms with very thick walls - you can make as much noise in your room as you like. There's a couple of great cinemas a block away too. By the way, you can't stay in Sid Vicious' death room as a couple of losers tried to commit suicide in it. There's always someone who spoils it for the rest of us.

How rock and roll is this place? It's so rock and roll that Noddy Holder, ex lead singer with Slade actually lives here! Any band worth it's salt has been here; it's cheap, has a great location near to Marble Arch, the bar stays open as long as there are people wanting a drink, and nobody says anything if you skin up. The last time a Sonic staff member was there he was chatted up by the lead singer of a very famous (and supposedly very heterosexual) band.
A national monument.

Credit cards at the ready! You'll need plenty of them if you're to hold you're own with the aristocratic types and film stars who stay here. Fabulously opulent, with a marble lobby, an Eighteenth-century facade and one of Paris' great restaurants. Eye wateringly expensive, but if you've just gone platinum, who cares?

The Delano Hotel is THE hotel in Miami's South Beach. It's an Ian Schrager Hotel (He also did the Royalton and Paramount in New York). Located in the Art Deco District, the design of the Delano is comtemporary. Seeing a bright yellow Lamborghini in the front of the hotel made a very good first impression for me. With ecletic furniture, 25 foot long flowing white draperies, and huge columns, the lobby is a place to see and be seen. We saw so many models crawling all over the place. Walking to the pool area, you pass a garden that is right out of Alice in Wonderland with an oversized chess board (each wooden chess piece weighs over 20 pounds) and weird looking sofas/beds. The pool area is also where the $600-a-night bungalows are located...I read in Variety Magazine that this is where Hollywood and fashion executives do their wheeling and dealing. The pool is beautifully designed with overflowing water, a table and two chairs right in the pool, and (someone told me) they play classical music underwater. Our penthouse room, as with all the rooms, was completely white...it was nice that the maid came to clean the room 2-3 times a day. The hotel's restaurant (named Blue Door) is partly owned by Madonna. Staying at the Delano for four days, I can see why Vogue called it "America's coolest hotel".
Hotel Diva
San Fransisco
Thanks to Tito Young for sending this one in.

I want you to include in your list the Hotel Diva in the city of
San Francisco! Located one block due Northwest on Geary
Street from Union Square, it's a great place to arrive with
long white limos and tie up traffic more than it already is.
The hotel has a unique modernism / old world style and is one
place that if your wanting to be seen or get notice. One can
never be bored here...foods, shopping (Fashion Shopping
Districts, Hair Designers, Cafes, Art Galleries, are speckled
everywhere.)
I think that it is called the Hotel Diva because it's location is right across the street from the Geary Street Opera House, (where one could see Phantom of the Opera or Cats). Slick place for rockers to trash before checking out...
Hotel de Filosoof
Anna van den Vondelstraat 6

This place is completely bonkers. Each room is done out in the style of a great philsopher! The Plato room,
for example, is decorated in black and white, with
paintings mounted on trompe l'il pedestals. A great place to contemplate the meaning of life while smoking huge reefers.
Gramercy Park Hotel

New York 10010.
Tel:(212) 475-4320
Not an obvious choice, but we like this place, not least because they let us set up a makeshift studio in our rooms. It's full of tourists in town to see the latest Lloyd Webber monstrosity, but has great rooms and an adjoining park you can use. It's good value too, particularly at the weekends, when you can get a special rate. They have a tremendous piano bar, really cheesy pianists singing all those top Billy Joel numbers to an audience of disinterested alcoholic housewives.
Hard Rock Hotel
Las Vegas.
Thanks to Ed McCormack (ejmc@cyberatl.net), for sending us this review....
I stayed there for a few days in August of '95 and had a blast! The casino isn't full of old people playing slots, gambling isn't the primary focus of the guests, partying is, as evidenced by the numerous sillver dollars left to be found in the slot machines. I'm going back on 8/10/96 to see Steely Dan - not a bad lounge act! The pool has a sand beach, and music, (real music not Muzak), is piped in underwater.
The rooms are very nice, with interesting photos of rock legends. Wall sconces in hallways are made with zildjian cymbals. Lots of memoribilia in the casino and lobby.
By Vegas standards the hotel is very intimate, not at all like the mega hotels that are more like shopping malls. All in all I was very impressed and had a great time.

Famous for playing host to Oscar Wilde while on the run from the English authorities, this tiny hotel has retained its' romantic air. A good place to take your supermodel girlfriend for a 'special' weekend.
Marriott Marquis
It's the big one in Times Square, New York
A marvel of modern architecture! Very, very tall, the temptation to chuck TV's out the window is only controlled by the fact that they're all bolted down.
It's sort of like a multi-story carpark turned insideout. All the balconies face inwards with a vertigo inducing drop down to the Revolving bar (I'm serious!) Don't know if they ever get any 'jumpers' here but there's always a first time.
Check out the lifts, super fast and on a quiet night it's possible to descend up to 40 floors in a matter of seconds..

Hotel Monaco
C/Barbieri 5, Madrid 28004
Tel 522 46 30
We like this place, not least because it used to be a brothel until the early 1960's, and not just any brothel either - it was an upmarket establishment aimed at Madrids' elite, and the feel of the place has definately been retained. All the rooms are different, but all of them have tacky features like mirrored ceilings, fake marble and raised, big baths. A great location for a party. Liable to bump into models and pop stars as it's often used as a backdrop for photo shoots and videos.

Great place to stay Downtown, just off the Bowery on the edge of Little Italy and the Lower East Side, near to loads of trendy bars and clubs. If there's a few of you travelling, this is the place; the rooms are like tiny apartments, with kitchenettes etc. The last time we were there it was $120.00 a night for four sharing. A bargain by New York standards.
Mount Of Olives Hotel
Jerusalem
Affordable family-run hotel situated at the summit of the Mount of Olives
in Jerusalem, next door to the Chapel of Ascension. Surrounded by famous
churches and holy sites including, among others, the Garden of Gethsemene,
the Tomb of the Virgin Mary, the Church of all Nations, Dominus Flevit,
and the Pater Noster (Lord's Prayer). Commands a dramatic view of the Old
City and the magnificient Dome of the Rock. Ideal for independent
travellers, budget conscious pilgrims, Holy Land tour groups, and
archaeological excursions. A simple accommodation, in a homey atmosphere,
at an outstanding value.
Manager Ibrahim Dawud adds: What happened in Rock & Roll history here? Well, Chico & The Gypsies stayed here about four nights ago. That's exciting. Since we're located right next door to the Chapel of Ascension, that means when Jesus returns he's probably gonna stay with us for a while, just until he gets all settled in. Then, we'll be really Rockin' & Rollin'. Wow!
Paramount Hotel

Super trendy, with lobby and bar designed by famed French architect Phillipe Starke, the Paramount is frequented by music business types and models; the bar is a great place for star spotting, and best of all you don't have to be staying at the hotel to frequent it; there's an entrance on 46th St. Rooms are pretty small, but nicely designed. Plus points; you can get virtually anything delivered on room service, and all the staff seem to be out of work models. The lifts are groovy too. If you're not rich my advice is to stay somewhere cheaper but go there one evening to hang out.

This has got to be the most Rock and Roll Hotel in the States. I just got off of two years on the road, must have stayed there 10 times and every time was a party (last time I was there a tame fundraiser degenerated into a nekkid pool party!!!). Absolutely everyone stays there and the parking lot is usually full of tour buses. Right smack dab in the middle of the super-scary Tenderloin district (listen for the gunshots). Staff is kind to bands, it's pretty inexpensive given S.F. hotel rates, and the attached restaurant serves good food.
Portobello Hotel
Stanley Gardens
London W11
+44 171 727 2777
A lot of bands and/or people who like late-night bars in London hotels have
stayed in the Portobello Hotel. A musician friend, caught by the staff
trying to remove a packet of cigarrettes from the machine ( which had eaten
her coins - a strictly one-sided relationship leading to her retaliation )
was challenged with " So your from New York ? "
It's in Notting Hill, which is good. It's small, and so are most of the
rooms .. get your record label to pay for a suite.

Thanks to Jonathan Lammers (jlammers@mail.dos.state.fl.us) for this submission.
While few, if any, rock-n-roll legends are associated with the Prince
Murat, it is nevertheless a hotel worthy of mention. Part of a dying
breed of motor lodges, the Prince Murat is a monument to burnt-out neon
(the sign currently reads "Princ Mur") and multi-colored, deep-pile shag
carpet. Located in downtown Tallahassee, the Murat is a must for the
rock-n-roller who wants to say "not only have I not arrived, I've fallen
and can't get up." The hotel is named for Joachim Murat, who settled in
Tallahassee after his father's career as Napolean's cavalry commander
was no longer an asset on the the continent. Rooms are incredibly
cheap, with a double going for about $30 US.

"Where the Rich and Famous get Down and Dirty" says their ads, and I'd certainly go along with that. Very basic rooms, but a great lower East Side location and helpful staff make this a must. Loads of info available on all the cool bars and clubs in the vicinity (and there are a lot). Very laid back attitude and a bizarre clientel adds to the fun. Would you believe a seperate floor for transexuals?! Check it out!

Hotel Triton
342 Grant Avenue (at the corner of bush and grant, across from the gateway to chinatown), San Francisco
Tel (415) 394-0500
Small but quaint, with exquisite details such as harlequin motif-painted
walls, funky furniture reminiscent of the Royalton and Le Cirque 2000, and
nice toiletries from the Body Shop/Neutrogena the bathrooms. Great
unconventional concessions such as locally made toffee in the snack bar.
Valet parking available at $22/day, although there are many parking
structures that are cheaper and within walking distance. Great, friendly,
attendant staff to boot.
For the eco conscious, they even have a floor entirely made with eco-safe
materials..
Rates start at $180 a night.
