Cut not Boost

When recording audio tracks and wanting to change the overall tone of the track you are recording by using an EQ (either on the mixer, or an outboard) keep the level under zero. If the track needs more treble, don't boost the high end above zero, cut back the low end and turn up the gain. Resulting in a higher signal-to-noise ratio...resulting in a quiet recording..
