As a guitar lover and recording enthusiest, I have yet to encounter 'The Magic Microphone'. One zillon dollar mic as a fullproof recording technique is rather unrealistic as the solution for what could be a rather unrealistic endeavor: recording an electric guitar without spending more time miking than playing.

To dare flirt with royalty, I shall not compare a couple patch cables and rack units with amp stacks and 'sure' mics, but only offer suggestions and alternatives for you to explore a process which is documenting originality and an opportunity for creative expression beyond 6 stings and a stomp/wah pedal. Let's begin with the facts....

Cables are your lifeline. Two dollar cables are gonna' sound like $2 cables. So starving artists....make your own. ]

Confidence is key. Since knowing your rig's capabilities, and pushing that envelope is how you excel, to know your rig down to the fine print of the manuals frees you up to utilize the enormous possiblities of a direxct recording configuration..

Don't get over-absorbed in appearences and name brands. You may again find yourself delusional in the search for that magic microphone and/or the perfect preset on the priciest pre-amp.
