Tired of the silence coming out of your Mac's speaker? Don't have a CD drive to playthrough music with? Sit back, and relax as you listen to the sounds of nature with Ambiance.
This application can use "sound collections" to play random sounds like bird chirps or ocean surf, play looped sounds like rushing water or crackling flames, or semi-random loops like thunderstorms or swamp noises. Ambiance comes with seven collections and instructions on how to make your own.AudioBlob is a simple, pretty audio CD player for Macs. It requires the Apple Audio CD driver. It might require System 7.5, but we're not sure - we don't have anything older installed.
Audiodeck is an audio CD remote player for Apple CD-ROM drives. Audiodeck also works with non-Apple drives which are 100% compatible with Apple's drivers.

The Macintosh package converts to and from a number of file formats including SoundDesigner I and II, AIFF, WAV, VOC, NeXt SUN.au and Quicktime, and provides hi quality sample rate conversion, normalisation to a user editable ceiling, bit-rate conversion, region extraction, several stereo to mono conversions and optional dithering. All parameters on a whole batch of differing files, from all 11 formats if required, can be set up before running the conversion as a background process, and the speed of the process is increased when run on a PowerPC or using a DigiDesign audio card (ProTools II, Audio Media II) on a 680x0 machine. For maximum clarity the input file hierarchy is copied to the output and a detailed log file is produced.
The demo yields, when not using a digidesign card, 5 seconds of converted audio in every output AIFF file. It requires a PowerPC, or a 680x0 mmac with an FPU.

CD Equalizer records sound from a CD-ROM drive (or other source), runs it through a 27 band equalizer, then plays the new signal through the Mac's speakers and/or headphone jack. It can run in the background, so you can listen to CD's while using other applications.

Waves has just released a new freeware sound utility "TrackPac-Lite". This utility compresses and expands SDII sound files without loosing any sound quality. For more details of this product please read the read me file inclosed.
VSamp is a long-awaited program that turns the Macintosh into an OMS and Sound Manager compatible multitimbral sample playback module. Configured like a simple sampler, VSamp can be setup to playback on 16 MIDI channels with up to 16 samples per channel, mapped and enveloped to user-defined configurations. This can then be driven by an OMS-compatible sequencer, or the included application 'OMS Thru' running on the same computer.
