Creative drive has volcanic tendencies

US DVD ready 12x multi format      19/06/00

Not strictly a mainstream concern of Sonic State, but we thought you might like to know anyway. Creative Labs Europe has launched the PC-DVD Encore 12X drive, available from the end of June 2000 at a UK RRP of £209. The PC-DVD Encore12X drive reads DVDs at up to 12X speeds and supports all popular disk types, including both audio and photo CDs. Not only can it be used for watching DVD movies, either on a PC or on TV, but it can also be used for listening to audio CDs and for playing games. So what, you ask? According to Creative, "In response to the growing popularity of digital audio and MP3, Creative LAVA! Player is also included allowing the user's listening experience to be enhanced by an interactive customised and music-synchronised video for a complete, immersive 3D visual experience." Sonic State have seen LAVA! in action, and it's pretty darned funky. What's more, it's been developed by some of the ex E-mu guys - Creative owns E-mu/Ensoniq, yeah? - so it can't be bad... dcr
