AES: Improved monitors from Alesis

US Score so far: Monitor One, Mark Two      29/09/00

Alesis introduced the newly-designed Monitor One Mk2 at the 109th AES Convention in LA. To paraphrase the marketing manager, the company thought the Monitor One was good, but could be better. Hey, isn't it always the way? The Monitor One Mk2's crossover point has been adjusted to 2kHz, giving a flatter response than before. There's an updated voice coil, an improved 1-inch high frequency driver and a renovated 6.5-inch low frequency driver, a sturdier cabinet and smoother corners to reduce edge diffraction. All in all, improved quality of sound, the company claims. You can bet the pricing will be competitive too.
