MOTU has done a lot of work on version 3 of DP, including "aquafying" the look of the program. After using Performer/DP since the late 80's I'm not sure how I'll take to the new design, but at first glance it does look beautiful. Beyond the new look, MOTU has added some much requested features. DP 3.0 will have a commands window in which the user can create their own key stroke combinations to control every single menu item in the program. In this window you would also be able to assign key commands to match any other program you are accustomed to using, like Cubase or Logic. If you are making the transition to DP or frequently switch between several sequencers this could make your life a lot easier. DP 3.0 will have ProTools import/export, allowing the user to freely switch between DP and PtoTools in mid-project if needed. The new version will also support surround sound, in a wide variety of surround formats. I seem to have lost my DP data sheet in the excitement of the NAMM show, but the MOTU representative said that the software will support every surround format that exists. As for system compatibility, the MOTU representative I spoke with said that DP 3.0 will "probably" work fine with system 8.6, definitely with any system 9, and that they hadn't fully tested it with OSX yet. Apparently, MOTU will be coming out with a new version of DP for OSX at a later date. According to MOTU, DP 3.0 will be available in the second or third quarter of 2001. I personally can't wait, as there are many new features and refinements! Albert
