MESSE: Radikal Spectralis Sounds Wicked

Analog sounds show off to great effect 03-Apr-04
MESSE: Radikal Spectralis Sounds Wicked
Joerg Schaaf and the latest Spektralis

You may remember last year we found Joerg Schaaf- the guy behind the Quasimidi designs, in a quiet corner showing a prototype of his latest synth - the Spektron. Back then, it was orange and mute - at this years NAMM we saw a reworked and renamed model called the Spektralis - indeed Joerg gave us a demo of the unit (you can see it here).

The Spektralis is an Analog Synth with a Beatmatrix and filterbank to boot. Featuring a 3 oscillator Analog Synth section, 32 channel step sequencer - enabling very complex parameter sequencing as well as pitch, a 48 voice, DSP based sample playback engine with multimode filter. There's 96mb of sample rom too.

At the MESSE this year, on the Radikal Technologies stand the Spektralis was shown in a more advanced form. Joerg has been tweaking the analog section of the synth to great effect and has been inspired to create some new patterns which we heard at the stand.

The previous prototype we saw was able to load sample data from the memory slot, whereas now USB 2.0 has been added for sample transfer.

The first production run is expected around the middle of May with many of them already pre-sold, so if you fancy one, you'll need to pre-order now to ensure you get your hands on the first batch.

Check out some of the demos we heard from Joerg:

  • Spektralis MP3 demo 1 (3mb)
  • Spektralis MP3 demo 2 (800k)

The Spektralis will be available directly from Radikal Technologies around mid May at $2500/2000 euros
