Creamware have been busy over the Winter, they've taken one of their finest Scope platform plugins, namely the Minimax - a quality Minimoog emulation and put it in a dedicated hardware system, complete with authentic controls. The Minimax ASB (Authentic Sound Box) is a six voice, 256 memory virtual analogue synth with stereo outs plus a stereo input for processing of external signals. The unit also has MIDI I/O and a USB connection for Host/ Midi interfacing. The Minimax was on display at the stand, but there's also a Prophet-5 in the pipeline - approximately 2 months away from final production we're told. Creamware were keen to make the P-5 due to the diminishing availability of the real things and it's classic nature. We had a fiddle with the Minimax on the stand, although it wasn't a final production model, it felt good - the fact that you can just interface with it in the same way that you would and original is a real bonus - those of you who are familiar with the Korg legacy and the MS-20 controller will understand. Pricing is a nice surprise too, with both units aiming for the sub EUR 800 mark you could get one of each for less than half the price of a SH unit of either â?? and it wont go out of tune.
