Studio Tube Microphone Price Drop

Audio-Technica tell us that they have reduced the price of their AT3060 Phantom-powered Tube Microphone. The AT3060 is now available with an estimated street price of $399 U.S. ($499 U.S. MSRP) — the lowest price ever for vintage A-T tube sound.
Here’s what A-T have to say about the mic directly from their own press release:
Designed for studio production, voice-overs, on-air and other critical broadcast applications, Audio-Technica’s AT3060 represents groundbreaking developments in tube microphone technology, also breaking the price-for-performance barrier. A distinguishing feature of the AT3060 is that it operates on standard 48V phantom power; as a result, it does not require a separate power supply and cable, making it as easy to set up and use as a standard condenser microphone. Audio-Technica has made this possible at an extremely affordable price point, which allows a wider range of broadcasters to experience the AT3060’s sonic excellence and warm classic tones.
The AT3060 features a large-diaphragm cardioid condenser element, delivering high sensitivity and smooth sound with low overall noise levels, while a precision-machined, nickel-plated brass acoustic element baffle provides enhanced element stability and optimizes sensitivity. The tube used in each AT3060 is hand selected and aged to maintain peak performance, and the tube itself is shock-mounted to dampen mechanically induced vibration.
Electronically, the AT3060 includes a large coupling transformer to provide superior linearity at low frequencies, while precision valve design delivers the traditional warmth of the classic tube microphones. With its rich bottom end, mid-range presence and smooth top end, the AT3060 is perfect for wide variety of broadcast and studio production applications. A silver satin finish ensures the microphone looks as beautiful as it sounds.
The AT3060 Phantom-powered Tube Microphone includes the AT8458 shock mount to provide superior isolation, and a protective pouch. This exceptional microphone has been created using state-of-the-art design and manufacturing techniques to ensure compliance with A-T’s stringent consistency and reliability standards.
