WNAMM07: Real-Time iPOD Scratching and Pitch Control

Numark have been showing off their iDJ2 which we first brought news of from last year’s Frankfurt Messe. Numark say that it is the only iPod mixing console that provides full control of the music, with real-time scratching, pitch control, seamless loop, and full cueing.

Numark CEO, Jack O’Donnell told us, “The release of iDJ2 has been highly anticipated by the DJ community, the media and our extensive global customer base. It is the perfect system for any iPod owner, music enthusiast and DJ looking for an all-in-one solution for playing and mixing their music library with ease. Numark is truly bringing the art of the DJ to the masses and breaking the boundaries between professional DJs and the everyday needs of music fans for their personal entertainment.

The iDJ2 features an innovative new iPod docking system that allows users to play two songs simultaneously from a single iPod, without the need of a computer. Users can also hook up multiple mass storage devices including additional iPods, Memory Sticks, and external USB hard drives through rear panel USB ports. In addition to USB connectivity, the iDJ2 comes complete with line inputs for any audio source including a microphone, CD players and turntables.

Music libraries should be easily managed using the iDJ2’s graphic interface. The oversized LCD screen offers waveform display and visual track-profiling. The iDJ2 allows DJs to record their musical performances to the iPod or any connected drive, in addition to full control audio play back. It supports multiple USB connectivity options, iPod docking and charging, and support for MP3, Ogg Vorbis, and AAC (non-DRM) formats.

For real mix with MP3 I prefer 2 Technics turntables and a program like "Final Scratch"... And my portable mixing system to mix my MP3 files is my PocketPC, a headphones and "Pocket DJ Studio" program... In an ipod size device you have almost all that you need to practice mixes...
