Kazoo and toy microphone inspire Berrtill freeware distortion plug-in 04-May-07
A chap named Johan Larsby has released a freeware plug-in, Berrtill, which he describes as a distortion unit modelled from circuit bent hardware (see video to see the hardware). It is available for free download for Windows and Mac OS X (UB).
Here’s how Johan describes it in his own words…
“So I've modelled from a glitch /industry set-up that I've got help with from a very big name in the industry scene. A reference sound is played trough the car speaker its then picked up via the kazoo. The sound travels from the kazoo to the tape recorder, it's a bit remade though. The tape head is switched for a guitar jack in. the audio is then picked up by the red toy microphone and amplified to finally be picked up and taken back to a computer. After this is done a few times with different settings on amplification and the such a neural network works it's magic and a formula was made. This formula was then moved into a VST plug-in.
