Kel Audio introduce the HM-2 large diaphragm instrument mic 11-May-07
$99 Condenser

Kel Audio have introduced their HM-2 microphone which they describe as a large diaphragm instrument mic that combines the best aspects of a fast pencil-style condenser mic and a 1-inch center-terminated true capacitor element. They are selling it for a special introductory price. Here’s what they have to say about it in their own words:

'The HM-2 combines the best features of a fast response "pencil-style" mic and a center-terminated large diaphragm capsule.

The HM-2 utilizes a transformerless, symmetrical, balanced amp circuit for fast transient response and accurate bottom end. The 1-inch diameter, 3-micron, capsule delivers big present instrument recordings and offers better noise performance than most small diaphragm instrument mics because of its relatively higher output.

The HM-2 has a unique "small supercardioid" polar pattern. Unlike pure cardioid mics with nulls at 180-degrees off axis, the HM-2's null is at 140-degrees. However, its rear lobe is not as large as most supercardioid mics relative to the front lobe, and supercardioid mics generally have nulls near 126-degrees. The result is a mic that has fairly wide pick-up while rejecting sound tangentially for good performance near stage monitors or when tracking bands live off the floor when controlling leakage can be a challenge. The HM-2 makes an excellent bluegrass mic for bands that like to use the traditional "single mic" technique on stage.

Because of its flat profile, the HM-2 is easy to position inside pianos, around tom toms or anywhere live or in the studio. The added low-cut switch helps control proximity effect when close-micing.

Use the HM-2 to record piano, acoustic guitars, mandolin, banjo, upright bass, string sections, choirs, and more. The HM-2 makes an excellent room mic when recording electric guitars or drums and takes EQ well. Though we feel it is best suited to instrument micing, the HM-2 also makes a good vocal mic when you need a clean sound with presence, rather than a thick sound.

The HM-2 is available singly or in pairs at a special price. The mic also comes with a 1-year unconditional warranty and a 21-day satisfaction guarantee. If you don't like what it does for your music return it in good condition within 21 days for a full refund.'
