Just the 808 is a rhythm piece put together by Soundwave on Youtube – I think I detected a little extra help in there in the form of reverse sounds and a couple of sampled fills but the main body is just the TR-808. Quite possibly the most influential drum machine ever introduced? Certainly in R&B and Hip Hop it still plays a major part – and when you consider it’s getting on for 30 years old, that aint bad. The fact that it had separate outs enabled you to clock other devices to create rock solid beats and basslines, opening the door for many aspiring dance acts and producers.
