Well, it’s the news we have been expecting but in a slightly different form than we expected. The follow up to Logic Pro 7 is now available but Logic Pro 8, a major upgrade, now comes as part of the new Logic Studio which Apple are describing as ‘a comprehensive suite of professional tools that provides everything musicians need to create, produce and perform in the studio and on the stage.’
Logic Studio features Logic Pro 8 and introduces MainStage, an innovative new live performance application that Apple tell us turns the Mac into a streamlined live rig. In addition, Apple tell us that Logic Studio includes SoundTrack Pro 2, Apple’s professional audio post production software, Studio Instruments, made up of 40 pristine quality instruments, Studio Effects, with 80 professional effect plug-ins, a vast Studio Sound Library and a powerful set of production utilities. All this for just $499…
Logic Pro’s major new feature, as widely predicted, is a redesigned, single-window interface and we’ve also lost the XS key (yippee!).

• Simplified Setup
  Production-ready templates, a streamlined track setup window, and dynamic channel strip creation get you up and running fast. Improved ReWire support provides easy integration with other music applications.
  
• Effortless multitake recording
  Region-based take management speeds up multitake recording, editing, and processing. An expandable take folder makes it simple to recall overdubs, and entire take folders can be moved and edited like regions.
  
• Quick Swipe comping
  With breakthrough Quick Swipe comping, you can simply swipe over the best portions of each take to create a seamless comp, complete with transition-smoothing crossfades.
  
• New audio editing tools
  Work faster and with greater precision using powerful new features like snap-to-transient selection, graphical time stretching, and sample-accurate editing in the Arrange window.
  
• Surround mixing and processing
