As a follow up to the original Black Hole, launched at January’s NAMM show, Latvian company, JZ Microphones, have now released the Black Hole SE (BH-2) on show at MESSE.
Juris Zarins, designer of the microphone, told us, “The new mic will be in the same quality and has the same design as Black Hole. The main difference is that it is produced as a fixed cardioid microphone and the price tag is less expensive. I think it is the right gear for everyone who is looking forward to recording as professional, also in home and project studios.
JZ tell us that the good quality and sound of Black Hole has been recently proved by two signed endorsement contracts with high profile users from the USA - Rob Chiarelli (Christina Aguilera, Will Smith, Madonna, Janet Jackson) and Bryan Carlstrom (Alice in Chains, Rob Zombie, The Offspring).
Black Hole SE characteristics:
  • Cardioid condenser microphone.
  • Class A discrete amplifier circuit.
  • One large, true electrostatic capsule inside the compact head.
  • New special capsule with single, less centre tap diaphragm and adjustable backplate.
  • Patterned variable sputtering of diaphragm, using specially mixed alloy for coating.
  • Integrated capsule shockmount.
Pricing and Availability:
The retail price of the BH-2 is USD 1895, 00 (EURO 1299, 00) More information:
