    Part 2 of 2...

One of the great things about going to trade shows is meeting some really interesting folk, and when we came across Wes Dooley at the Joystick Audio stand, resplendent in coat and top hat, we just knew he had a story to tell.

And tell it he sure did!

Turns out that Wes knows pretty much all there is to know about old-style big ribbon mics - and since they're enjoying somewhat of a resurgence in popularity, that know-how is being put to good effect. Wes started out refurbishing RCA-44 and similar big ribbon mics, and with his company AEA, soon started to re-manufacture parts for them. They took it further with the design and manufacture of their own range of mics, based on the principles of the originals, but using modern-day knowledge and manufacturing techniques.

Wes needed no encouragement to tell us all about his products and ribbon mics in general... in fact it was hard to get him to stop ;-]
But he provided us with a goldmine of information and background - many thanks, Wes!

He talked for some 17 minutes, so we've presented it in two parts - enjoy!

Nice piece. I'm going to have to price out one of these mics.

now THAT is a true school guy, Mr. Dooley. Thank you for posting this. It is a pleasure to patronize a company like his... I must see about being able to afford to do so!

Hey, glad you enjoyed it guys. It was great to have someone in front of the camera who *really* knew his stuff, and after many years in the business, still had such obvious passion for his chosen field. Great stuff.
