Photosounder 1.0 is an editor and synthesizer that is innovative in that it doesn't process sounds but rather their spectrograms, which it then turns back into sounds, only based on the image data.
Designer Michel Rouzic has this to say, "It can load both sounds or images, treats them for the whole while as images, on which all the processing is performed, and finally turns it all back into sound. It can be used to synthesise new sounds from images, either regular images or images designed to produce a precise kind of sound, or do things to sound that couldn't be done at all before, such as playing a side upside down, or to an extent that wasn't previously within reach."
